Sarge Says: Watch out for the “other guy” at stop signs

From our case files:

People seem to have an unfortunate tendency to look to the right when pulling out on to a highway.  That’s a major cause of serious car accidents locally because traffic with the right of way is coming from their left.

Even though you are on a major road like the Kenai Spur Highway and have the right of way, watch out for the other guy at that stop sign.  He may just pull in front of you when he’s looking to the right.

It’s little comfort to be legally correct if you’re injured in a car crash.  Keep an eye on that “other guy”, slow down a bit as you approach at driver at a stop sign, and make eye contact if you can to be sure that he doesn’t suddenly pull out in front of you when you’re on his left.
